Hawarden Independent, June 14, 1945

We were in error last week in giving an account of the death of Miss Belle Everhart, who died at Rock Valley last Tuesday as the result of a fall from the porch at the home of her brother, E. M. Everhart. We were told over the telephone that it was Mrs. Mary Everhart, mother of E. M. Everhart, instead it was Miss Belle Everhart, and his sister instead of his mother.

The remains were brought to Hawarden and funeral services were held from the Ross Funeral Home on last Thursday afternoon, and burial was in Grace Hill cemetery.

Mary Isabelle Everhart, known to her many friends as Belle, was born June 10, 1868, at Wheatland, Iowa, her parents being John & Catherine Everhart. When she was 4 years of age the family moved to Maurice, Iowa. As a child she was baptised into the Methodist church. In 1882 the family moved to Hudson, SD, where she lived until 1896, when the family moved to Hawarden, Iowa. Her mother died in 1910 and her father in 1914, when she left Hawarden, residing in various places until 1922, when she moved to Sioux City, where she resided with her sister, Cora, at the Holiness Mission, until the time of her death. While visiting with her brother and wife, Mr. & Mrs. E. M. Everhart at Rock Valley, she fell from a porch, striking her head on the cement, fracturing the base of her skull. She never regained consciousness and died 20 minutes later.

She leaves to mourn her death her brother, E. M. Everhart and wife of Rock Valley, and one sister, Mrs. Cora Waters, of Sioux City, besides many nephews and nieces.

She was well known here in Hawarden, having visited here many times since moving to Sioux City and her many friends deeply regret the unfortunate accident which caused her death.
