Funeral services for Jeannette J. Sterk, age 91, of Sheldon, Iowa who passed away on Friday, October 21, 2011 at Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull, Iowa. Her service will be 10:30 A.M. Friday, October 28, 2011 at Bethel Reformed Church in Sheldon with Joel Sterk officiating.
Burial will be at the East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon.
Arrangements under the care of Vander Ploeg Funeral Home, Sheldon, Iowa.
Jeannette Josephine Sterk the daughter of John and Jacoba (Snip) Van Beek, was born September 16, 1920 on a farm near Matlock, Iowa. Jeannette attended country school in Sanborn, Iowa. She married Lambert Sterk on January 9, 1941 in Sanborn, Iowa. After her marriage to Lambert Sterk in Sanborn, Iowa, the couple farmed in Sheldon, Sanborn and Hartley; in 1962 they bought the family farm in Sheldon. After Lambert’s death on April 22, 1967 Jeannette remained on the family farm until moving to the Christian Retirement Home in 2005. In 2009 she moved to Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull, Iowa where she resided until her death. Jeannette passed away on Friday, October 21, 2011 at the Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull, Iowa, reaching the age of 91 years, 1 month and 5 days.
Jeannette was a Charter Member of Bethel Reformed Church in Sheldon and was also involved with Bible study and the Bethel Women Ladies Aid. She loved the church and being involved with various groups and activities.
Jeannette enjoyed bowling, playing cards, various games, crocheting, sewing, playing the organ and piano. Her family was an important part of her life as she loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her four children; Marlyn and his wife Shirley of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Loren and his wife Dyan Sterk of Sheldon, Iowa, Larry and his wife Marsha Sterk of Algona, Iowa and Joleen and her husband Gerry Sauer of Spring Hill, Kansas; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one sister Julia Frazier of Seal Beach, California and many beloved nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
Jeannette is preceded in death by her parents; husband Lambert; great-grandson Sylas Strong; brothers, John, Roger, Wilbur and Henry Van Beek; sisters, Jeannette in infancy, Wilhelmina Brouwer and JoAnn DeBie.
