Alida Marie (Hess) Walgenbach, 98, died Saturday, October 22, 2011 at home surrounded by her family.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 27, 2011, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Hospers with Rev. Paul Eisele officiating. Burial will be in the St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery in Hospers. Visitation will be anytime after 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct 26, 2011. There will be a rosary at 5 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m. all at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Hospers. Services have been entrusted to Fisch Funeral Home & Monument of Remsen, IA. Alida was born July 16, 1913 in Hospers, Iowa, to Johanna (Van Misplaar) and Henry Hess. She attended the St. Anthony Grade School and graduated from the Hospers high school. Alida married Roland (Beep) Walgenbach on Thanksgiving Day, November 26, 1936, at St.Anthony Church in Hospers. Alida and Beep spent their loving and working lives together on the Walgenbach farm until Roland retired in 1976. After that they resided in their home on the corner of the farm and continued active, productive lives.
Alida was noted for her warm hospitality and sweet smile for family, friends, neighbors, and anyone who came to her home. Often they were greeted by an invitation to a cup of coffee and a piece of pie. Her great joys in life were gathering her family, making quilts for special family events and new babies, and praying for family and friends.
Alida will be greatly missed by her son David, Sauk Center, MN; daughter, Sister Mary David Walgenbach and the Sisters of Holy Wisdom Monastery, Madison, WI, and daughter, Roleen, Bemidji, MN, daughters-in law, Mary Walgenbach of El Paso, TX, and Arlene Walgenbach of Hospers, IA, as well as eleven grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, sister-in-law, Ann Hess, Smith River, CA, and many other relatives and friends.
Alida was preceded in death by her husband, Roland (1999), son, Daniel (1997), son Craig,(2009), dauther-in-law, Coleen Walgenbach, brothers, Gil and Henry, and one sister-in-law, Evelyn.
Casket Bearers will be: Martin Roland Walgenbach, Jacob David Walgenbach, Wayne John Walgenbach, David Roland Walgenbach, Joel David Walgenbach, Zachary Coleman Walgenbach, Joshua James Walgenbach.
Memorials in Alida’s name may be made to a charity of choice or to Holy Wisdom Monastery in Madison, WI, or to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
