Robert Burdette Evans, 83, of Early, died Tuesday, April 15, 1998 at the Scottsdale Memorial Hospital in Scottsdale, AZ.
Memorial services were at United Methodist Church in Early, with Rev. Karl Schlitz officiating. Burial was prior to the service in Early Union Cemetery.
Mr. Evans was born Dec. 30, 1914, in Early, the son of Elmer & Clara Evans. He attended Early Public School and graduated from Kemper Military Academy in Boonesville, MO. He received his bachelor's degree from Coe College in Cedar Rapids in 1938. He was employed with Evans Construction Company. He served in the US Coast Guard.
He married Beth Louise Weaver in 1943, at Sioux Falls, SD. Following his discharge, he returned to Early and the family business, where he worked for 25 years. He then served as executive secretary to the Power & Communications Contractors Association for 14 years.
He was a member of Early United Methodist Church. He served on the board of directors for the Early Savings Bank, the Boy Scouts, as president of the Lions Club and as treasurer of the school board. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and golf.
Survivors include his wife; two sons and their wives, Jack & Nancy of Cedar Rapids; Craig & Nancy of Chanhassen, MN; five grandchildren, Matt, Will, Peter, Seth and Maria; a sister and her husband, Shirley & Don Ward of Sun City West, AZ; and a brother and his wife, William & Barbara, of Webster City.
