Mrs. Vander Vliet died very suddenly Sunday morning [March 10] of uremic complications. Mrs. Vander Vliet leaves a husband and two small children in her immediate family, besides a host of relatives in and about the vicinity of Hull, to mourn her loss. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon at the First Reformed Church. A large concourse of friends besides the relatives followed the remains to their last resting place in Hope cemetery. Mr. Vander Vliet, with his small children, have the sympathy of the entire community.

From the Sioux Center Nieuwsblad, March 20, 1918: Hull, Iowa section:

Verl. week overleed alhier Mrs. G. v. d. Vliet na eene korte ongesteldheid aan pneumonia. Zij had een zwak hart, hetgeen naar wij hoorden meer de oorzaak van het verscheiden was, dan de ziekte. De overledene laat een echtgenoot en twee jonge kinderen achter. De begrafnis werd gehouden vanuit de Geref. kerk.

Translation: Last week Mrs. G. v. d. Vliet died here after a brief illness from pneumonia. She had a weak heart, which we heard was more the cause of her demise than the disease. The deceased leaves a husband and two young children. The funeral was held from the Reformed church.

The Sioux County Cemetery Index has Johanna H. (Beyers) Vander Vliet, born 18 February 1886, died 10 March 1918, buried in Hull. Her husband Gradus Vander Vliet's obituary (Sioux County Index, August 26, 1948) gives her name as Anna Beyer.
