FUNERAL OF MR. G. VAN DER VLIET LAST THURS.
Passed Away Sunday, August 15, After Lingering Illness of Several Years DurationFuneral services were held Thursday, August 19, 1948, at the First Reformed Church of Hull, Iowa, for Mr. Gradus Vander Vliet, who passed away Sunday, August 15, at his home, after a lingering illness of several years. The services were conducted by the Rev. R. C. Thompson, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Sioux Center, and the Rev. Wm. C. De Jong, pastor of the First Reformed Church of Hull. Interment was at Hope Cemetery.
Mr. Gradus Vander Vliet was born in Ede in the Netherlands on May 25, 1897, and came to this country with his parents at the age of eight years. The family settled in Sioux County where he spent the rest of his life.
He was married to Anna Beyer on February 21, 1912. To this union two children were born: (Matilda) Mrs. Isaac Kuiper of Hull, and Herman of Boyden. She passed away March 10, 1916.
On December 15, 1919, he was married to Harriet Spinden and to this union six children were born: (Henrietta) Mrs. Bernard Meendering of Hull; (Annetta) Mrs. Gerrit Termaat of Hickman, Nebraska; (Julia) Mrs. Lawrence Bylsma of Hull; (Bernice) Mrs. Henry Vink of Hull; and Henry John and Stanley at home.
Besides these there are left to mourn his death 17 grandchildren; two brothers, Henry of Carmel, Iowa, and Evert of Colton, South Dakota, and one sister, Mrs. John Schuurman of Doon, Iowa.
Funeral services were attended by many friends and relatives, and among those from a distance were a sister and brother of Mrs. Vander Vliet, namely, Mrs. Henry Howen of Riverside, California, and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Spinden from Winside, Nebraska.

Estate of Gradus Vander Vliet, late of Hull. Estate was valued at about $32,510.35 and consists of $1326.10 cash in bank; mortgage $5200.00; bonds $2984.25; household goods $1000.00; real estate jointly owned with his wife valued at $22,000.00. The estate goes 1/3 to his wife and 2/3rds to his 8 children. Harriet Vander Vliet, his wife, was allowed $1200 for her support and maintenance during administration of the estate.
