From the Sioux Center News, April 11, 1940: "25 Years Ago":

Friday passed away at the age of 74 years Mr. Hendrik Van Vliet. The funeral was held Monday, led by Rev. Lubbers. Our sympathy is hereby extended to the family.

(The same notice--no additional details-- appeared in the Sioux Center Nieuwsblad, April 14, 1915, giving his name as Hendrik van der Vliet. The Sioux County Cemetery Index has an H. Vander Vliet, born 27 October 1840, died 9 April 1915, buried in Memory Gardens, Sioux Center.)
