From the Alton Democrat of Jul 9, 1898 Orange City news.
Jas. DeRoo went to Sioux Center July 4th intedning to celebrate there, but shortly after arriving complained of pain in the stomach. He went to the home of John Hoolander for rest and grew rapidly worse, so that he died Tuesday afternoon. The funeral was held from the Second Reformed Chruch Wed. afternoon at 4 o'clock.
( James J. De Roo died 5 Jul 1898 age 33 buried Orange City. He was the son of Jacobus Deroo born 1832 Neth and Wilhelmina Zorge, he had a brother Jacob two years younger that he, and b brother William born 1871 OH. The family was noted in the 1880 census living in Cincinnati OH where the children were born. In 1925 the brother Jacob was living in Orange City married to Elizabeth Dyksterhuis. James is believed to have been single)
