HENRY J. VAN VELZEN
Funeral services were held Friday, February 19, at 9:00 a.m. at the First Methodist Church in Tyndall, South Dakota, for Mrs. [i.e., Mr.] Henry John Van Velzen, 38 years of age.
The Rev. James W. Torbert officiated. Soloist was Mr. Emil A. Rehurek, and organist was Mrs. Faye Johnson. Pallbearers at Tyndall were Keith Hoffart, Albert Wacker, Howard Schutt, James Tolsma, Harold Guy and Royal Koch.
Additional services were held at 2:30 p.m., February 19th, at the First Reformed Church in Boyden, with Rev. Henry G. Schoon in charge. Soloist Norman Moret sang "Does Jesus Care." Organist was Mrs. Wm. Rons. Pallbearers were John Koerselman, Ronald Brinkman, Henry G. Heusinkveld, Henry L. Moret, Roy Hofsoomer and Lawrence T. Salmon.
The Wm. Monster Post No. 272 of the American Legion in Boyden was in charge of military services at the Boyden cemetery. All arrangements were by the Petrick funeral home of Tyndall.
Henry J. Van Velzen, son of Joe and Elizabeth Van Velzen, was born on April 21, 1926, at Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He later moved with his parents to the Boyden community, where he received his schooling and grew to manhood.
On December 4th, 1945, he was united in marriage to Miss Joy Rouwenhorst of Boyden. The family lived for some time in Boyden, and then moved to Matlock, Iowa, where he was employed as manager at the elevator. Two years ago they moved to Tyndall, South Dakota, where he was employed in a similar capacity.
Henry had been in apparent good health, being faithful in his work and taking active part in community responsibilities. He passed away at approximately 9:30 a.m. February 17, having reached the age of 38 years, 9 months and 27 days.
Survivors include his wife Joy and two children, Galen 13 years, and Barbara 8 years; his mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Van Velzen; one sister (Joan) Mrs. Cornie Siebersma of Sheldon; and one brother, Clarence Van Velzen of Marcus, besides many other relatives.

Mrs. John Van Onsbree, Mrs. Martha Eshuis, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Jansen, Mr. and Mrs. William Van Velzen and daughter Mary, and Mr. and Mrs. Case Van Velzen went to Boyden Friday afternoon to attend funeral services held for 38 year old Henry Van Velzen, who passed away at his home at Tyndall, S.D.
