Joe Van Woudenberg, 84, of Rock Valley died Friday, Oct. 3, 1997, at Valley Manor. Services were Monday at First Reformed Church in Rock Valley, with the Rev. Harlan DeJong officiating. Burial was in Valley View Cemetery.

Mr. Van Woudenberg was born Aug. 1, 1913, near Sioux County, Iowa, the son of Henry and Teunie (Verdorn) Van Woudenberg. He married Anna Noordman on March 28, 1934, in Fairview, SD. The couple farmed in the Fairview and Inwood area until retiring in 1984 when they moved to Rock Valley. She died August 8, 1995. He moved to Valley Manor on July 7, 1997.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Jerald and Linda of Canton, SD; a sister, Marie Middle of Rock Rapids, Iowa; three grandchildren, Jana Woudenberg, Leslie Simons, and Scott Brietag; a step-grandchild, Daniel Wolf; and a great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by a son, Harvey; two brothers, Henry and Richard; and a sister, Elsie Faber.
