HOLD LAST RITES HERE MONDAY FOR MRS. VAN ZANTEN

Funeral services for Mrs. Cornelius Van Zanten, Sr., 74, were held here on Monday afternoon, in the home at 1:30 p.m. and at 2:00 p.m. in the Christian Reformed church. Dr. H. Kuiper officiated at both services. Burial was made at the Valley View cemetery. Mrs. Van Zanten died of a lingering illness last Thursday afternoon [Sept. 16] at her home.

Born Huiberta Vander Bent at Delft in The Netherlands, daughter of Johannes Arie and Cato Vander Bent, she met and married Cornelius Edward Van Zanten on March 4, 1896, while still living in the old country. To this union, 10 children were born, six in the old country and four in the United States.

The Van Zantens moved to the United States in 1909 and settled in the Rock Valley area that year. Mrs. Van Zanten resided here with her family continuously since that time.

Survivors include all 10 children: John of Ireton; Elizabeth (Mrs. C. Kleinhuizen) of Kalamazoo, Mich.; Catherine (Mrs. L. Toering) of Pipestone, Minn.; Christine (Mrs. Ellis Kooi) of Sioux Center; Marie (Mrs. L. Kooi) of Inwood; and Tony, Bill, Cornelius, jr., Bertha (Mrs. G. Brands) and Johanna of Rock Valley.

Also surviving is the widower; two step brothers, Everett Boekestein of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Nien Boekestein of Rotterdam, The Netherlands, 45 grand children and five great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers at the funeral were as follows: Cornelius E. Van Zanten, Richard W. Van Zanten, Cornelius Van Zanten, John Van Zanten, Henry Toering and Cornelius Toering.
