Mrs. Marietta Vandersall, age 72, of Orange City, passed away on Saturday, October 8, 2011, at the Orange City Area Health System Hospital.

There will be a memorial service on Tuesday, October 11, at 9:30am, at the Trinity Reformed Church in Orange City. Interment will be at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. Arrangements are with the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Marietta Ann was born on February 16, 1939, in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of Luther A. and Etta Mary (Thomasson) McCullough. She was raised in Kansas City and Johnson County, Kansas, where she graduated from the Shawnee Mission High School in 1957. In 1961, she received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Sterling College in Sterling, Kansas.

On December 30, 1961, she married Stanley James Vandersall in Shawnee, Kansas. They lived in Amsterdam, New York, Cleveland, Ohio, and Des Moines, while serving Reformed churches. In 1981, they moved to Orange City. She was administrative assistant at the Maurice-OrangeCity Elementary School from 1981 to 1991 and administrative assistant to the academic dean at Northwestern College in Orange City from 1991 to 2001.

Marietta was a committed Christian, loving mother, unselfish grandmother, active church member, and an involved community person. She belonged to the Trinity Reformed Church, where she served several terms as elder. She was a mentor at Northwestern College and at the Orange City Area Atlas. She also volunteered at several places, including Hands Around the World and the Gift Garden.
She touched her family and others in many ways. She was known for her deep faith and genuine caring concern for all those around her. As a 28 year recipient of a kidney transplant, she brought a unique and positive attitude to everything she did.

Survivors include her husband of more than 49 years, Stan; three children, their spouses, and nine grandchildren, Kirk and Michelle Vruwink Vandersall, and their children, Dexter and Bella, all of Arden, North Carolina; Scott and Johanna Vandersall, and their children, Jenah, Josie, Wynne, and Silas, all of Martelle, Iowa; and Marcia and Jeff Bannink, and their children, Janneke, Zane, and Johan, all of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; two sisters, Patricia Hisle, of Festus, Missouri; and Nancy Boyd, of Shawnee; an uncle and aunt, Lloyd and Claudine Thomasson, of Quapaw, Oklahoma; a sister-in-law, Marva Spurlock; and many nephews, nieces, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
