From the Alton Democrat of Jun 4, 1898
Hudson SD news (near Hawarden IA)

Hans Rice, one of Norway township's oldest settlers, and one of its solid, substantial farmers died at his home seven miles west of here, on Saturday, of blood poisoning, and was laid to rest in the Norway township cemetery on Monday. Mr. Rice was in the best of health a week before his death, but accidentally ran
a rusty nail in his hand which brought about blood poisoning, from the effects of which he died Saturday.
He was highly esteemed by all who knew him and his funeral was one of the most largely attended
ever held in the county, there being 107 teams in the funeral train, which followed his remains to their last earthly resting place.
( Found a Hans Rice (Riise) in 1880 in Norway township of Lincoln County SD. He was 28 years bron about 1852 in Norway. No evidence was found of a family)
