Hawarden Independent December 1, 1938

James C. Lush has received word of the death of his brother-in-law, Thos. J. Wallace, which occurred very suddenly at his home in Pasadena, Calif. on November 21st.

Mr. Wallace was a former well known resident of this community, having grown to young manhood on a farm in Reading township, near Ireton, and later lived on a farm, northwest of Hawarden and also for some time was a resident of this city. He was the son of James & Mary A. Wallace and was born in Neenah, Wis., June 15, 1863, so was past 75 years of age at the time of his death. While he was still a small boy the family settled on a homestead in Reading township and later lived in Union county. After his father's death his mother married Wm. Cook of Hawarden.

On February 27, 1890, Mr. Wallace was united in marriage with Ida A. Mead of Virginia township and they made their home on a farm there for a number of years. After the North Western railway built their short line from Hawarden to Sioux City in 1910 and the town site was laid out at McNally, Mr. Wallace built and operated the first store there, continuing in business there for several years. Later he moved to Alexandria, SD, and several years ago he and his wife moved to Pasadena where they have since resided.

Besides his wife he is survived by two sisters, Mrs. F. A. Atwood of Sioux City and Mrs. J. G. Horner of Wimbledon, ND.
