Hawarden Independent January 20, 1916

Chas. W. Wallace died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. G. W. McCormick, at Marshall, Minn., Tuesday, following a week's illness from la grippe and other complications. The remains were brought to Hawarden Wednesday afternoon, accompanied by Mrs. McCormick and John Bridge. Funeral services were held at 10:30 this morning at the Methodist church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. C. H. Young, and burial was made at Alcester in a grave beside his wife, whose death occurred in Hawarden about sixteen years ago.

The deceased was born in Northumberland, PA, June 30, 1829, and at the time of his death had attained the age of 86 years, 6 months and 18 days. He grew to young manhood in Pennsylvania where he was married. In 1855 the family removed to Illinois where they continued to reside for nearly thirty years. Mr. Wallace enlisted in Co. H, Illinois Artillery, in 1862 and served nearly four years. He came to Hawarden in 1883 and resided in this vicinity almost continuously until about two years ago when he went to make his home with his daughter. He was the father of eight children, six of whom are left to mourn his departure. The children are: J. W. & F. B. Wallace and Mrs. G. W. Vearrier of this city, C.C. Wallace of Minneapolis, Mrs. Ida McGinnis of Seattle, Wash., and Mrs. G. W. McCormick of Marshall, Minn.
