Hawarden Independent March 2, 1939

Mrs. M. B. Ewer, mother of Mrs. W. E. Niemeyer of Hawarden, died at her home in Sioux City last Saturday morning after a sickness of seven weeks. She suffered a stroke early in January and never recovered therefrom.

Mrs. Ewer was born September 2, 1860, in Kane County, Iowa. She lived in Rock Rapids for several years before moving to Sioux City in 1910. She had resided there since and was a member of Grace Methodist Church.

Surviving are the widower, Merrit B. Ewer; four daughters, Miss Bertha Ewer of Sioux City, Mrs. C. A. Hunt of Saticoy, Calif., Mrs. Ethel Niemeyer of Hawarden and Mrs. Maude Hirschman of San Pedro, Calif.; a son, Jesse W. Ewer of Alma, Mich.; a sister, Mrs. T. J. Young of Alden, Iowa and six grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon in Grace Church, Sioux City. Rev. Frank Bean, pastor assisted by Dr. H. E. Hutchinson officiated. Burial was in Graceland Park Cemetery, Sioux City.

Besides Mr. & Mrs. Niemeyer and daughters, those attending the funeral from Hawarden were Mrs. J. E. Gearhart, Mrs. A. Earl Ross, Mrs. W. S. Weaver, Mrs. T. J. Glasscock and Mrs. W. L. McLeod.
