Hawarden Independent August 20, 1942

M. B. Ewer of Sioux City, father of Mrs. W. E. Niemeyer of Hawarden, passed away Monday morning in a Sioux City hospital after a brief illness.

Mr. Ewer was visiting in the home of Mrs. Niemeyer when he was stricken suddenly Sunday morning. He was down town Saturday afternoon and seemed in his usual health early Sunday morning. He was taken in an ambulance to the Methodist hospital in Sioux City where he passed away on Monday.

M. B. Ewer was born at La Salle County, Ill., Oct. 23, 1858. As a young man he resided in Harrison County and Sioux County, Iowa and later farmed for many years near Rock Rapids. He retired from active farming about 30 years ago and moved to Sioux City. He was a member of Grace Methodist Church in Sioux City.

His wife preceded him in death in February, 1939. He is survived by four daughters, Miss Bertha Ewer of Sioux City; Mrs. W. E. Niemeyer of Hawarden; Mrs. C. A. Hunt of Santa Cory, Calif; and Mrs. A. B. Hirschman of San Pedro, Calif. and one son, Jesse W. Ewer of Alma, Mich. He also leaves one brother, W. K. Ewer of Dresden, Kans., and one sister, Mrs. Fred Welch of McAllen, Texas; six grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Mr. Ewer visited frequently in the home of Mrs. Niemeyer in Hawarden and was quite well know here by many.
