Myrtle A. Newman, 83, of Hawarden died Saturday, October 14, 1995 at the Hass Hillcrest Care Center in Hawarden.

Funeral service was at 1:30 Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Hawarden with the Rev. George Henriksen officiating. Burial was in the Grace Hill Cemetery at Hawarden. Visitation was after 11 a.m. Tuesday with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at the Porter-Dow Funeral Home in Hawarden.

Mrs. Newman was born November 10, 1911 in Union County, SD, the daughter of Albin and Anna (Erickson) Ericson. She attended rural school and graduated from the Hawarden High School in 1931. Myrtle married Charles G. Newman April 10, 1933 at Bancroft, NE. They lived in a variety of places including Kentucky until returning to Hawarden. She was employed at the Hawarden Community Hospital for about 30 years.

She moved to the Hass Hillcrest Care Center on June 24, 1989. Myrtle was an active member of the Hawarden Senior Citizens Center.

Survivors include her husband, Charles; a daughter Gina Kelley and her husband Mike of Grand Junction, CO; 2 brothers and their wives, Cecil and Phyllis Ericson of Akron, and Derwood and Romona Ericson of rural Hawarden; 4 grandchildren, Monica Pearson of Castle Rock, CO; Marci Nolan of Grand Junction, CO; Thomas Kelley of St. John's Virgin Islands and Matt Kelley of Grand Junction; 7 great grandchildren; and a special friend Florinda Jernberg of Hawarden.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Russell Ericson and his wife Lorraine.
