DEATH OF LONG TIME RESIDENT
MRS. E. J. ERICSON DIED LAST FRIDAY AT ROCHESTER
Was 68 Years Old and Lived in This Community 50 Years--Leaves Husband and Eight Children

Mrs. E. J. Ericson, a resident of this community for more than fifty years, passed away at 12:45 last Friday afternoon [June 7] at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minn., following an operation to which she submitted on Tuesday of the preceding week. Although Mrs. Ericson had been in poor health for some time the seriousness of her ailment was not learned until about seven weeks ago when she went to Rochester in hopes that through medical science her life might be spared. Although everything humanly possible was done for her, complications developed which she was unable to overcome and death claimed her last Friday afternoon. Her daughters, Misses Delia and Ann Ericson of Sioux Falls, and Mrs. Fred Warren of Indianapolis, Ind., were with her during the operation and the two former were with her when she passed away.

The body arrived in Sioux City Saturday morning, accompanied by Misses Delia and Ann Ericson, and was brought to Hawarden overland. Funeral services were held from the home at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon and at 2:30 from the Baptist church with Rev. Clyde Clark, the pastor, in charge. Favorite songs of the departed were sung by Dr. Ida E. Peterson and Mrs. Ralph Doty. Interment was made in Grace Hill cemetery.

Josephine Bostrom was born in Stockholm, Sweden, March 19, 1867, and passed away June 7, 1935, having attained the age of 68 years, 2 months and 18 days. In February, 1885, she came to America to join her parents, who had preceded her to this country the previous year and had located at Big Springs. She was united in marriage Nov. 28th of that year to E. John Ericson, Rev. P. A. Ring of Big Springs performing the ceremony. Mr. Ericson had a home ready for his bride on his farm in Big Springs township, six miles southeast of Hawarden. She lived on this farm with her family until May 10, 1902, when they came to Hawarden and she made her home here continuously since that time. In 1918 she moved into a lovely new home which they had built just across the highway from their former home in the west part of this city.

She was reared in the Lutheran church and she remained a firm believer of her faith throughout her life. However, for many years she was a faithful worker in the local Baptist church, being a member of the Ladies' Aid and of the Bible class of this organization.

She was the mother of eight children who with the husband are left to mourn her death. The children are Miss Hulda and Elmer H. Ericson of Hawarden; Misses Delia and Ann Ericson of Sioux Falls; Herbert A. Ericson of Des Moines; Mrs. Robert G. Paramore of Chicago; Mrs. Fred Warren of Indianapolis, Ind., and Mrs. Charles V. Broadley of New York City. All of her children, with the exception of Mrs. Broadley, were here for the funeral. Mrs. Broadley was unable to come because of illness. She is also survived by an invalid sister, Mrs. Sofie Lindblom, who has made her home with her continuously for the past three years and for long periods of time at various intervals for a good many years. There are six grandchildren.

Mrs. Ericson was indeed a loyal wife and a wonderful mother in the home, and in the rearing of her large family her life was one of sacrificial devotion. Her efforts in helping care for her invalid sister during the past year were untiring and she did all she could to ease her burden and suffering. The welfare of her family was ever her first thought but she also found time in her busy life to extend a helping hand to a friend who was less fortunate than she. During her long residence in this community she won the esteem and affection of a large circle of friends who extend sincere sympathy to her sorrowing husband and children.

Out of town people who came to attend the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Ericson and children, Herbert Jr., Jean and Marjorie, of Des Moines; Mr. and Mrs. R. G. Paramore and son Richard of Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Warren and daughter Anne of Indianapolis, Ind.; Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Ericson and Mr. and Mrs. Conrad Torell and two children of Princeton, Minn,; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Carlson of Sioux City; A. S. Karr, Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Karr, Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Karr and Edw. Karr of Ireton, and Mr. and Mrs. David Lilly of Westfield.
