Pioneer Automobile Dealer Expires in Los Angeles, Calif.

J. C. Wade, an early day resident of Hawarden, passed away in Los Angeles, Calif. last Friday evening from a heart ailment after a lingering illness of five years. The body will arrive in Sioux City Friday and funeral services will be held at 2:30 Saturday afternoon in the Christy Chapel at Morningside with Rev. George W. Dunn, pastor of the First Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery.

Mr. Wade was the son of the late Mrs. W. F. Wade, who passed away in Sioux City, November 20, 1940, at the age of 102 years. He was born November 20, 1870 near Strawberry Point and moved with his parents onto a homestead near Elk Point. In 1888, the Wade family came to Hawarden. He went to Akron from Hawarden and entered the newspaper field. He was also engaged in the grocery business in his youth. In the early days of automobiles, Mr. Wade formed the Wade Buick Company at Akron and later moved his business to Sioux City. He was head of the business from 1916 to 1936 when he retired because of ill health. He was a director of the Toy National Bank in Sioux City.

He was united in marriage with Elsie B. Phillips of Elk Point, July 22, 1890, at Sioux Falls. She preceded him in death April 29, 1936. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Grace Kingsbury of Long Beach, Calif., and Mrs. Jessie Pfenning of Los Angeles, Calif., one sister, Mrs. Cora Holton of Sioux City and three grandchildren, Wade Kingsbury of Long Beach, and Jack & Mary Louise Pfenning of Los Angeles.

NOTE: There is a cemetery in Woodbury County, Iowa named Graceland Park, but he is not listed in the index for the cemetery.
