AGED CITIZEN DIES SUDDENLY
Oscar J. Erickson Answers Call Wednesday
Was 79 Years of Age and Had Resided Here and at Big Springs for Forty-six Years

Oscar J. Erickson, for many years a resident of this community, died suddenly about 8:15 Wednesday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Henry Allen, in this city. He had been ailing for about a week although his condition was not considered as at all serious. However, he spent most of the last three or four days in bed. Wednesday morning he had his breakfast in bed about 5:30 and was up and down several times after that hour. Shortly after 8 o'clock Mrs. Allen left his room for a few minutes and when she returned she discovered that he was dead. A physician was hastily summoned but Mr. Erickson was past earthly help. His death was attributed to heart failure.

Funeral services will be held at the Ross Funeral Home at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon and at 3 o'clock at the Big Springs Baptist church, with Rev. B. L. Carlton, the pastor, in charge. Interment will be made in the Big Springs cemetery.

Oscar J. Erickson was born in Naarke, Sweden, May 2, 1849, and died June 27, 1928, at the advanced age of 79 years, 1 month and 25 days. He was united in marriage with Amelia Burman in Sweden. They came to America in 1882 and located in the Big Springs community where he farmed for twenty-nine years. Mrs. Erickson died Aug. 4, 1910, and the following year he moved to Hawarden and made a home here for his younger children until after they married and has since made his home with his children. Prior to last August he spent seven years with his daughter, Mrs. A. J. Anderton of Big Springs. The Anderton family departed in August last year for Long Beach, Calif., and since then he has lived with his daughter, Mrs. Henry Allen in Hawarden.

He is survived by five daughters and two sons. One son, Albin Erickson, died March 8, 1926. The surviving children are Mrs. Henry Allen of Hawarden, Mrs. A. J. Anderton of Long Beach, Calif., Mrs. Chas. F. Anderton of Alcester, Mrs. Ed Lundberg of Hawarden, Mrs. Della Head of Jefferson, Iowa, Carl Erickson of Alcester and Arthur Erickson of Minneapolis.
