Former Hawarden Resident Died in Sioux City Wednesday

"Grandma" Wade, well known centenarian, died Wednesday morning in her home at Sioux City at the age of 102 years.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m., Friday at the family residence. Rev. George W. Dunn, pastor of the First Methodist church will officiate and burial will be in the cemetery at Hawarden.

Mrs. Cynthia Dow Wade was born October 27, 1838, on a farm near Montpelier, VA. She married W. F. Wade at Beaver Dam, Wis., February 4, 1860. They lived there until 1864 when they moved to Strawberry Point, Iowa, and Mr. Wade joined the union army.

At the close of the Civil War they moved to Union County, SD where they settled on a homestead 12 miles north of Elk Point. In 1888 they moved to Hawarden where Mr. Wade engaged in the hardware and furniture business. He died January 11, 1893. She moved to Sioux City in 1927.

Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Cora Holten of Sioux City; one son J. C. Wade of Los Angeles; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. A daughter, Mrs. Nettie Goodroad died in 1898.
