Sioux Center News, November 22, 1989

Martha Eshuis, 82, of Sioux Center, died Thursday at her daughter's home in Rock Valley.

Services were Monday at First Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center, with the Rev. B. J. Haan officiating. Burial was in Memorial Garden Cemetery.

Born Martha Van Velzen on February 26, 1907, at Sassenheim, The Netherlands, she was the daughter of Cornelius & Antje (Van Egmond) Van Velzen. She attended grammer school there, moved to the United States in 1923 and attended Sioux Center Christian School.

She married Marinus Jensen in 1931, he died in 1933. On November 28, 1935 she married Adolph Eshuis, who died August 27, 1946.

She was a member of First Christian Reformed Church, the Golden Hour Society and the Dutch Martha Circle. She helped with Cash for Trash and was a cook for Dordt College for approximately 25 years.

Survivors are two sons and daughters-in-law, Adolph and Dorothy R. Eshuis of Rock Valley, and Cornie & Shirley Eshuis, of Orange City, four daughters and sons-in-law, Henrietta & James E. Driesen and Jesse and Ben Voetberg, all of Rock Valley, Margene & James Kooima of Sioux Falls, and Frieda & Marion De Haas of Grangville, Idaho; 30 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two husbands and three daughters, Anna Mae Bruinsma, Geraldine Koldhoven and Alice Vis.
