Mr. Bernard Reinders, age 87, of Orange City, passed away on Thursday, September 29, 2011, at his residence.
There will be a funeral service on Monday, October 3, at 9:30a.m., at the First Christian Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. Paul Bakker will officiate. Interment will follow at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. Visitation will be after 2:00p.m. on Sunday, with the family present from 2:00p.m. to 4:00p.m., at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.
Bernard was born on December 12, 1923, at Orange City, the son of Brunis and Jeanette (Van Peursem) Reinders. He was raised in the Orange City area, where he attended the Christian School and the Northwestern Academy and Junior College. He farmed near Orange City.
On November 28, 1969, he married Lorna Grace Kleinwolterink in Sheldon. They made their home in Orange City.
At the time of this death, "Bernie" was the oldest lifetime member of the First Christian Reformed Church, where he sang in the church choir and served on the council. He was also a member of the boards of directors of the Christian School and the Farmers Cooperative, both in Orange City.
He enjoyed attending and listening to sports activities, traveling, and spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of more than 41 years; a daughter and her husband, Maria and Tim De Jong, and their children Erin, Allison, and Erica, all of Delavan, Wisconsin; a son and his wife, Berton and Kristi Reinders, and their children, Clayton, Carissa, and Calvin, all of Orange City; a brother, John B. Reinders, and a sister, Everly Visser, both of Orange City; a brother-in-law and his wife, Myron and Marilyn Kleinwolterink; and two sisters-in-law, Clem Kleinwolterink, of Sibley; and Norma Kleinwolterink, of Sheldon.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters and their husbands, Gertrude and Julius Singer and Sebianne and Delbert Popma; a sister-in-law, Margaret Reinders; and three brothers-in-law, Clarence Visser, Edwin Kleinwolterink, and Henry Kleinwolterink.
Memorials will be directed to the Christian elementary schools in Delavan, Wisconsin and Orange City.
