Hospers - Arvilla Isabelle Ewoldt, 83, Hospers, died Tuesday, Dec. 19, at Paullina Care Center.

Services were Friday, Dec. 22 at First Presbyterian Church in Hospers, with Mr. Ronald Brink, C.L.P. officiating. Burial was at Hospers Cemetery, under the direction of Oolman Funeral Home in Hospers.

Arvilla Ewoldt, daughter of Robert Walter & Paulina Flora (Fischer) Mealman, was born Jan. 13, 1923 in Hartley. She was raised in Hartley, where she graduated from high school. She then attended the Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. She taught school for one year. She married Delmer Ewoldt, on June 28, 1942 in Hartley. They farmed in O'Brien and Buena Vista Counties until 1967 when they moved to Hospers. She then operated the Dixie Drive-in in Hospers for almost 30 years. Mr. Ewoldt died Jan. 14, 1997, in Sioux City. She became a resident of Paullina Care Center on Nov. 17, 2006.

She attended the Presbyterian Church. She was a nature lover, who enjoyed bird watching. She also liked reading and using her computer, especially e-mailing to her relatives. She loved spending time with her family especially the grandchildren.

Survivors include four children, Larry Ewoldt, of Norwich, CT., Roger & MaryAnn Ewoldt of Hospers, Judy Pyle of Paullina, and Kenneth Ewoldt of Fostoria; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a brother, Bill Mealman of Yakima, WA; a sister, Eleanor Uthoff of Amana; and an aunt, Mary Elsing of Rushmore, MN.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Delmer Ewoldt; a daughter-in-law, Charlotte Ewoldt; a sister, Viola Groth; and a brother, Robert Mealman.
