Delmer Ewoldt, 79, of Hospers died Tuesday, January 14, at a Sioux City hospital. Services were Friday at First Presbyterian Church in Hospers, with the Rev. Brian Janssen officiating. Burial was in Hospers Cemetery.

Ewoldt was born on February 4, 1917 in Calumet, the son of Herman G. & Mary (Runge) Ewoldt. He married Arville Mealman on June 28, 1942 in Hartley. He served in World War II with tank-destroyer units. The couple farmed in O'Brien County until 1967, when they moved to Hospers. He worked for Chase Bag Company until retiring in 1991. The couple operated the Dixie Drive Inn of Hospers for 27 years.

Survivors include his wife; three sons and their wives, Larry & Charlotte of Norwich, Connecticut; Robert & MaryAnn of Hospers and Kenneth & Shirley of Jackson, Minnesota; a daughter, Judy Pyle of Paullina; 16 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three sisters, Lavine Richter of Hospers, Lois Klimke and Rosie Amendt, both of Sutherland; and a brother, Leonard of Spencer.

He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.
