OLD SETTLER CALLED HOME

The hand of death has again visited Boyden and this time has taken one of the oldest and most highly respected citizens. Peter Meyn died Monday morning [March 30] at 10:30 after a short illness of one week. His death was not wholly unexpected, but its coming has cast a gloom over the community in which he was so well known.

Peter Meyn was born February 12th, 1830, in the Province of Hannover, Germany and was reared a farmer boy. He was married in 1857 to Margretha Moeller, with whom he lived for five years when she died. To their union two children were born, who are now Mrs. Herman Meyners and Mrs. Leo Brendle. In May, 1864 he was married to Cathrine Kiebiling with whom he lived until his death. In 1872 he came to America and spent the first year in Pittsburg, coming to Sioux County, Ia. in the spring of 1873 and settled on a farm west of Boyden now occupied by his son Peter. In 1899 he built a residence on the west edge of Boyden which was his home until he died.

He leaves to mourn his death, his wife; a brother in Germany; eight children, Mrs. Herman Meyners, Mrs. Leo Brendle, John, Peter and Herman Meyn, Mrs. John Rhode, Mrs. Bertha Umland, Mrs. Wm. Diekman; twenty eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held today at 12 o'clock from the house and 2 o'clock from the German Lutheran church north of Boyden, Rev. Baetke in charge of the ceremonies.

In the passing away of this old settler Boyden loses a worthy citizen and the citizens extend their heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved relatives in their dark hours of sorrow.
