Sam Smit 80, son of Mr. & Mrs. Jim (Wilemina Pott) Smit passed away Wednesday, November 15, 1989 at the Orange City Hospital. He was born February 2, 1909 in Hospers, Iowa. He married Annie Van Bruggen March 17, 1938, in Sheldon. She died May 28, 1981. He married Margaret Klynsma October 19, 1983 in Hospers. A retired farmer, he moved into Sheldon in 1979.
He was a member of Hospers Christian Reformed Church where he served as elder and deacon for many years. He was a member of the Dutch Psalm Singers.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Mrs. Edwin (Elaine) Kats of Rock Valley, Mrs. Ivan (Aletha) Blom of Aurora, Colorado, and Mrs. Verlyn (Sandy) Baker of Dayton, Oregon; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Charles (Joleen) Vande Kamp of Hospers, Iowa and Mrs. Danny (Carolyn) Heltenberg of Yuma, Colorado; two sons, Arvin of Edger- ton, Minnesota, and Paul of Hospers, Iowa; two stepsons, Norman Klynsma of Hospers, Iowa and Franklin Klynsma of Sioux City, Iowa; two sisters, Mrs. John Gennie) Waanders of Hospers, Iowa and Mrs. Winnie Poppema of Sheldon, Iowa; two brothers, Joe and Bill, both of Sheldon, Iowa; one stepbrother, Frank Klynsma of Sanborn, Iowa; 46 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Annie; two sons, James and Kenneth, two sisters and three brothers.
