Donald Burnight Dies at Age 33; Rites Saturday

Funeral services for Donald J. Burnight, 33, former mayor of Chatsworth, who died last Wednesday [Feb. 4] at the Veterans hospital in Sioux Falls following surgery, were held at 1:30 at the Barnard Funeral home here and at 2 o'clock Saturday at Emanuel Lutheran church in Akron.

Rev. David Roy officiated with Stanley Ludwig, Lowell Ludwig, Harold Stephenson, Jack McInnis, Bob Alderman and Harold Moeller acting as pall bearers. Military rites were performed at the gravesite with interment at Riverside cemetery, Akron.

Mr. Burnight was born August 13, 1925, at Chatsworth. He graduated from Hawarden high school. He served in Berlin while overseas during World War II. He was post commander of Hoschler Post 186, Akron, in 1956. For four years he served as mayor of Chatsworth where he operated the grain elevator.

He married Marcie Nelson at Hills, Minn., August 15, 1957, and the couple lived in Akron a year where she taught school. Last fall on October 1 they moved to Spencer where he purchased a service station.

Survivors include the widow; the mother, Mrs. Nellie Burnight of Chatsworth; and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Jepsen of Chatsworth.

Burnight Scheduled For Surgery

Donald Burnight, formerly of Chatsworth, who recently purchased an oil station in Spencer, is scheduled to undergo surgery for the removal of gall stones at the Veteran's hospital in Sioux Falls the latter part of this week.
