HAWARDEN, IOWA- BESSIE S. "Betty" EISMA, 83, of Hawarden, Iowa formerly of Ireton, Iowa died Thursday, August 17, 2006 at the Hillcrest Health Care Center in Hawarden.
Funeral Service will be 2:00 p.m. Monday at the First Reformed Church in Ireton with Rev. Doug Van Aartsen officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Ireton. Visitation will begin at noon Sunday, with the family present from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden.
Bessie S. "Betty" Eisma was born February 21, 1923 at Hull, Iowa , the daughter of Peter and Bessie Sylvia (De Vries) Vanden Berg. She attended school in Sioux Center and Ireton and married Peter Eisma April 17, 1941 in Ireton. The couple made their home in Ireton where Peter owned with his brother Allen the Eisma Garage.
Bessie was a member of the First Reformed Church in Ireton and the RCW. She loved to coffee, make cream puffs and care for her neighbors. Peter died October 31, 1996. Bessie moved to the Hillcrest Health Care Center in Hawarden in September of 1997.
She is survived by two daughters, Constance Green and her husband Ronald of Hawarden and Julie Eisma of Des Moines; her son, Dennis Eisma and his wife Jane of Hawarden; a brother, Cornie Vanden Berg and his wife Eldora of Ireton; brother-in-law, Jake Hulshof of Ireton; special cousins, Winifred Kooima and Jerry Smith both of Rock Valley; 8 grandchildren, Matt Green, Jennifer Schuller, Teresa Feldhacker, Kelly Eisma, Kristie Goodmanson, Katie Sanderson, Bailey and Knute Enslow; and 6 great-grandchildren.
Bessie was preceded in death by her parents; step mother, Marie Vanden Berg; husband, Peter; and sister, Mary Ann Hulshof
