IRETON, IOWA- CLARA EISMA, 82, of Ireton, Iowa, died Monday, January 8, 2007 at her residence in Ireton.
Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the Christian Reformed Church in Ireton with Rev. Norlyn Van Beek officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Visitation will begin at noon Friday, with the family present from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the church. The Porter Funeral Home in Ireton is in charge of arrangements.
Clara "Klazina" Eisma, the daughter of John and Clara DeKruyf, was born in Perkins, Iowa on August 6, 1924. Clara grew up in the Lebanon, Iowa area where she attended Lebanon Christian School. Later her family relocated to Rock Valley, Iowa. By the age of 20, she was living in California and working as a physician’s assistant. She met and later wed Allen Eisma on June 26, 1947. The couple lived in Rock Valley for a short time and later made their home in Ireton where they raised their family.
She was a member of the Ireton Christian Reformed Church where she was currently active in Ruth Circle and over the years had been involved in various church committees and choir. She particularly enjoyed social outings with the Red Hatters and her rummaging friends. She also enjoyed crocheting, baking, and cooking. She was a wonderful hostess to visiting relatives and always had special goodies for ailing neighbors and friends. Survivors include 5 children, Sheryl Kiel of Victorville, California, Sherwin "Butch" and his wife Sherry of Ireton, Stewart and his wife Rochelle of Ireton, Sheila Faber and her husband Jay of LeMars, Iowa and Sharla Gradert and her husband Brian of Ireton; a sister, Betty Leeuw of Artesia, California; a brother, Johnny DeKruyf and his wife Beverly of Meridian, Idaho; 14 grandchildren, Shantel Bothwell, Stefawn Wester, and Shane Kiel, Tara Shannon and Tyler Eisma, Abbey Cook and Markie Eisma, Chelsee Miller, Steven Faber, Chassa and Cayleigh Norris, Kenyon, Kameron and Kolton Gradert; 5 great-grandchildren, Avery and Dylan Bothwell, and Faith, Ella, and Joel Wester.
Clara was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on June 19, 1999; son-in-law, Sylvan Kiel; 1 sister, Nellie Hollander; 2 brothers, Henry and Leonard DeKruyf; 4 brothers-in-law, Sid, Burton, Peter and Ernest Eisma.
