IRETON, IOWA- MINNIE EISMA, 82, of Ireton, Iowa died Saturday, January 14, 2006 at the Heritage House Nursing Home in Orange City, Iowa.
Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Christian Reformed Church in Ireton, with Rev. Norlyn Van Beek officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Ireton. Visitation will begin at noon Tuesday, with the family present from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the church.
Minnie Eisma was born December 11, 1923 at Hawarden, Iowa, the daughter of William and Nellie (Wiersma) Sinkey. She attended country grade school and high school in Ireton. She married Sidney Eisma December 12, 1940 at Ireton, Iowa. As a young homemaker and mother, Minnie helped with farming activities on their farm near Ireton. She did gardening, was a great seamstress and a good cook, making great pies! She taught Sunday school for many years and enjoyed the Martha Circle Society at the Christian Reformed Church in Ireton, where she was a member.
After she was confined to her wheelchair (16 years), she spent many hours crocheting towels, dishcloths and hangers, giving them away as gifts. She enjoyed having tea and coffee with family and her many friends.
Sidney died on May 11, 1991. In October of 2004 Minnie moved to make her home at the Heritage House Nursing Home in Orange City.
She is survived by six children, LeRoy Eisma of Ireton, Donald Eisma and wife Kay of Apple Valley, Minnesota, Mary Lou Obbink and husband Harvey of Orange City, Robert Eisma and wife Mary of Ireton, Barbara DeKraker and husband Wayne of Caledonia, Michigan and Mike Eisma and wife Lisa of LeMars, Iowa; a sister, Johanna Riepma of Hull, Iowa; 20 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
Minnie was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Brad; grandson, Todd Eisma; 4 brothers, Frank, Jake, Pete and Bill; and a sister, Bertha Peters.
The family wishes for memorials of Minnie be directed to the Ireton Christian Reformed Church or the Ireton Christian School.
