Rock Valley, IA: John U. Dykstra, 81, of Rock Valley died Sunday, October 2, 2005 at Valley Manor, Rock Valley. Funeral Service will be 1:30 pm Wednesday at First Reformed Church, Rock Valley. Burial will be at Valley View Cemetery, Rock Valley. Reverend Mike Van Hamersveld will officiate. Visitation with family will be 7-8:30 pm Tuesday at Porter Funeral Home, Rock Valley.
John Urban Dykstra was born April 1, 1924 to Richard and Alberdina (Van Putten) Dykstra near Rock Valley. He married Martena Kruisselbrink on January 20, 1948. John served in the U.S. Army Air Force and was a B-17 pilot stationed in Europe during World War II. John and Martena lived in Rock Valley where John worked as an auto mechanic and tractor parts sales and service. He was a member of First Reformed Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars. John enjoyed working with his hands with mechanical and carpentry. He was an avid Northwestern College Athletic Booster. John especially enjoyed playing card games with his children and grandchildren. Martena died August 1, 2004.
John is survived by 2 sons, Dennis (Tricia) of Urbandale, IA, and Jim (Joyce) of Farragut, IA; daughter-in-law, Sandy Dykstra of Loveland, CO; 9 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; sister Joan Kooiker of Middleburg, IA.
John was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Martena; son, Richard; 4 brothers; 4 sisters.
