Lorie Dykstra
Canton- Delores (Lorie) Dykstra, age 72. died Tuesday, September 09, 2008 at Canton-Inwood Memorial Hospital Hospice. Funeral services will begin at 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 15, 2008 at Bethany Reformed Church in Canton with burial to follow at Forest Full Cemetery. The family will greet visitors from 2 — 5 p.m. Sunday at Anderson Funeral Home in Canton. Lorie was born July 6, 1936 in Sheldon, Iowa, the daughter of Connie and Lizzie Kleinwolterink. She attended school at Western Christian High School graduating in 1954. Lorie married Harold "Harry" Dykstra in 1957. The couple made their home in Canton, where they raised their five children; Joel, Joan, Jean, Jonna, and Justin. Lorie quietly went about serving and encouraging her family and her community with her words and deeds. She was an active member of Bethany Reformed Church in Canton for many years. She shared her gift for music with the church, as well as, the residents of the Canton Good Samaritan Center.
Those grateful for having shared her life are: her husband of 51 years, Harold; her children and their spouses- Joel and Vicki Dykstra of Canton, Joan and Roger Matthews of Chicago, IL, Jean and Greg Strickland of Moore, OK, Jonna and Colonel Gregory Barrack of San Salvador, El Salvador, and Justin and Amy Dykstra of Tucson, AZ; 14 grandchildren- Sarah Dykstra, Cynthia Dykstra, Laura (Joshua) Johnson, Kathryn Matthews, Emily Matthews, Mary Ellen Matthews, Peter Matthews, Grace Strickland, Holly Strickland, Joy Strickland, Chloe Strickland, Nathaniel Barrack, Katerina Barrack, and Reik Barrack; one great-granddaughter, Eleanor Grace Johnson; a sister, Arlene Dykstra of Sanborn, IA; a brother, Willis Kleinwolterink of Sheldon, IA; and a large extended family and many friends.
Lorie was preceded in death by her parents and beloved sister, Joyce Vander Broek. Lorie loved to volunteer at the Alpha Center in Sioux Falls, SD. This was a reflection of her love for young mothers and children. Memorials have been established to the Alpha Center in her honor.
