Death of Mrs. Eilts ruled traffic death; funerals set

Funeral services have been scheduled for the two elderly sisters killed early Thursday in a 1-car accident north of Brunsville.

The deaths are ruled as the 11th and 12th traffic fatalities in Plymouth county this year. Services for Mrs. Mathilda Eilts, 85, Le Mars, will be held Saturday at 2 p. m. at Grace Lutheran church in Le Mars with Rev. James W. Rassbach officiating. Burial will be in St. John Lutheran cemetery in Reading township near Ireton under direction of the Mauer funeral home. A double prayer service for the well known women will be held at 8 p. m. Friday at the funeral home. Rev. Rassbach will officiate. Services for Mrs. Arthur (Verona) Salberg of Long Beach are scheduled to be held in California with burial there. Services will be held at Westminister, Calif. Monday. Oct. 28. at Memorial park mortuary.

Both were dead at the scene at 8 a. m. Thursday after the car driven by Mrs. Eilts left the fog shrouded road and crashed into a farm field embankment. Dr. Sherman E. Lindell, county medical examiner, today said it was first thought the driver suffered a coronary prior to the accident. He said, however, an autopsy was performed Thursday afternoon at Sioux Falls and results showed Mrs. Eilts died as the result of massive chest injuries in the crash. Her only sister, who was a passenger, died as the result of massive head injuries. Dr. Lindell said. Both women were born in Sioux county near Ireton to Henry and Emilie Dittmer Vlotho.

Mathilda Fredielcke Vlotho was born June 8. 1889, She lived in Sioux county most of her life and retired to Le Mars in 1940. Her marriage to Reiner Henry Eilts took place Dec. 29. 1909. at Ireton. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1971, an infant daughter, three brothers and a sister. Mrs. Eilts was a member of Grace Lutheran church. She was very active in church affairs and was an accomplished organist.

Survivors are a daughter Mrs. Lloyd (Irene) Mueller. Maurice: three sons, Marlin. Ireton. and Alwin and Cletus, both of Le Mars; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Verona Vlotho Salberg, 73, had been visiting her only sister for several weeks in Le Mars. Her home was at 2450 Magnolia Drive, Long Beach. She was born Nov. 29, 1900, and her marriage to Arthur Salberg took place in California.

Mrs. Salberg is survived by her husband Arthur L. Salberg. Long Beach, and a stepson. Richard Salberg in California. She was preceded in death by her three brothers and two sisters.
