Sioux Falls - Lorraine (Horstman) Zimmer age 91, of Sioux Falls, SD, and Spirit Lake, IA, died Friday August 28, 2009, at Bethany Lutheran Home in Sioux Falls, SD.

Funeral services for Lorraine Horstman Zimmer will be at 6:00 PM Wednesday, September 2, 2009, at Miller Funeral Home, 507 S. Main Avenue in Sioux Falls and 11:00 AM Thursday, September 3, 2009, at First Lutheran Church in Milford, IA.

Public visitation begins at 3:00 PM Wednesday, September 2, 2009 at Miller Funeral Home, 507 S. Main Avenue in Sioux Falls with the family greeting friends from 5:00-7:00 PM. There will be an additional visitation from 9:00-11:00 AM Thursday, September 3 at First Lutheran Church in Milford. Burial will be at 2:30 PM on Thursday, September 3rd at Prairie View Cemetery in Paullina, IA

Lorraine was born May 30, 1918 in Ireton, Iowa to John and Hattie (Nanniga) Vlotho. She graduated from Ireton High School and later attended Iowa State Teachers College. Following graduation, she taught for seven years before marrying Alvin C. Horstman on July 15, 1945. Lorraine and Al settled in Paullina, Iowa where they raised their two children. As a member of First Presbyterian Church, Lorraine taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, and lent her talents as a soloist. She also partnered with her husband to start her own catering business.

In 1975, Lorraine and Al moved to Spirit Lake, Iowa where she was active in Chapter MO of P.E.O., First Presbyterian Church, and later First Lutheran Church in Milford. After a lengthy illness, Al passed away on June 21, 1983. Lorraine began wintering in Mesa, AZ where she met and married John Zimmer on February 14, 1998. Lorraine and John made their home in Sioux Falls where the Zimmer's graciously accepted her into their family. In December of 2007, she moved to Waterford at All Saints where enjoyed the company of staff and friends.

Survivors include her husband, John Zimmer, Sioux Falls, SD; daughter Clarice Green and husband Morey of Spirit Lake, her son Carleton of Des Moines; and children Tom Zimmer and his wife Joan of Anthem, AZ, LuAnn Trudeau and her husband Mike, Pam Gunderson and her husband Paul, all of Sioux Falls; as well as seventeen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
