Funeral services for Mrs. Eleanor Hector, 69, of
Sheldon, who passed away on Tuesday, December
23, 1997 at the Oak Park Care Center in Sheldon,
were held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 26,
1997 at the First Reformed Church in Sheldon,
with Rev. Gary Rozeboom officiating. Burial was
held in East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon under the
direction of the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home of
Sheldon.
Eleanor Anne Hector, the daughter of August
and Elfrieda Stegeman Meyn, was born on
February 10, 1928 near Boyden, Iowa. She
received her education in country schools and
later graduated from Boyden High School in 1946.
On October 8, 1948 she was united in marriage to
Clarence Hector at St. Johns Lutheran Church in
rural Boyden, Iowa. After their marriage the couple settled in Sheldon, where Eleanor was
employed by the Sheldon Community Schools, at
the Wonder Bread Thrift Store and before her
retirement at HyVee. Her husband preceded her in
death on March 19, 1982 in Sheldon, Iowa. She
remained in the family home until moving to the
Oak Park Care Center in February of 1994. She
passed away at Oak Park on Tuesday, December
23, 1997, reaching the age of 69 years 10 months
and 13 days.
She was a member of the First Reformed
Church in Sheldon and the RCWM of the church,
the Sheldon Garden Club and Business and
Professional Women.
Eleanor is survived by her children: one daughter
Nancy and her husband Curtis Mills of Spirit
Lake, Iowa; three sons: Rick and his wife Beth
Hector of Garrison, North Dakota; Brian and his
wife Shonna Hector of Orange City, Iowa; and
Mike Hector of Garrison, North Dakota; also five
grandchildren; two sisters: Mrs. LaVonne Holland
of George, Iowa and Mrs. Carol Geerdes of
Missouri Valley, Iowa; also a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband and.
parents.
