Tillie Buffington,93, of Hawarden, formerly of Rock Valley, died Tuesday, Feb. 26,2002 ar Hillcreast Health Care Center in Hawarden. Funeral services was Saturday, March 2, at the American Lutheran Church in Hawarden with the Rev.Jeff Swanson Officiating. Bural was in Valley View Cemetery at Rock Valley. Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden was in charge of arrangements.

Tillei was born on a farm near Fulton, SD. on March 18, 1908 to Fred and Philippina(Boschee)Bender. The family moved to a farm north of Bismark, ND., where she later met and Married he husband, Ed Buffington, in September of 1926. They lived in Rock Valley. Mr. Buffington died in April of 1947. She was employed in a cafe and also did laundry and child care. She moved to Hawarden in 1977. She was a past member of the Pioneer United Methodist Church in Rock Valley.

Survivors include; daughter, Betty Winterfeld; son-in-law Raymond Fuller, seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; three sisters, Emma Ashley, Junstina Ackerman and Theresa Schroeder; and brother, Edward Bender.
