Mrs. C, A. Hedden, for nearly 42 years a resident of Hawarden, passed away at her home in this city at 4:45 Saturday afternoon after an illness of long duration. She was a sufferer from
rheumatism for twenty years and for the past four years had been unable to walk at all. Since the first of the year she had been suffering from bronchial trouble and this was the immediate
cause of her death.
The funeral was held from the Ross Funeral Home at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon with Rev. Clyde Clark, pastor bf the Baptist church, in charge
and interment was made in Grace Hill, cemetery. Mrs. Hedden had made the plans for her own funeral years ago and these were carried out as nearly as possible. The pall bearers were John
Kavanaugh, Ernest Kavanaugh, Art Johnson, Grover Williams, Ernest Anderson and Charley Newman.
Marietta Stowe was born in Chickasaw county, Iowa, Nov. 11, 1804, and passed away in Hawarden at the age of 69 years, 2 months and 16 days. On
Nov. 8, 1882, she was united in marriage with Channing A. Hedden at Parkersburg, Iowa. After their marriage they resided in Parkcrshurg for
about a year and then moved to Elmore, Minn., where they made their home until August, 1892, when they moved to Hawarden and their horn
has ever since continued to be in this city. Seven children were born to Mr and Mrs. Hedden, six of whom survive The youngest son, Wayne, was accidentally drowned in the Sioux river here on Jan. 18, 1928. The children she with her husband survive are: Roy Hedden of Wellington Kan; Mrs. Ward Estes of Enning, SD; Ward Hedden Hedden of LaPorte, Ind.; Mrs. Wm Younie of Hawarden; Frank Hedden of Enning, S. D., and Mrs. Julius Finch
of Hudson. All of the children were here to attend the funeral. She is also survived by eighteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren, besides two brothers, E. W. Stowe of Eagle Grove and John Stowe of Hecla, S. D.
Mrs. Hedden was a quiet, home loving woman with the welfare of the members of her family always her first consideration. During her long
years of illness she was a patient sufferer.
She had been a member of the Woodman Circle for 29 years and for several years served as clerk of the local lodge, until she was compelled by
ill health to relinquish the office.
In addition to her children, other out of town relatives and friends who were here to attend the funeral included Julius Pinch and son of Hudson, E W. Stowe of Eagle Grove and Mrs. P
Haas, Bessie Haas and Edward Haas of Sioux Falls.
