Mrs. Margaret Heemskerk
Mrs. Margaret Heemskerk, 95, of Boyden, died Saturday, Sept. 19,1998, at the Osceola Community
Hospital in Sibley. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Sept. 22, at the First Reformed
Church in Boyden with the Rev. Matthew Draffen officiating. Interment was at the Sheridan
Township Cemetery near Boyden.
Margaret was born July 11, 1903, the daughter of Jake and Marie (DeRuyter) Uithoven in Haarlemeer, Holland. She came to the United States with her family in 1910 to Perkins. The
family moved to Canada in 1913 returning to the United States in 1916 to Valley Springs, S.D.
They lived in California for a year before returning to the Valley Springs area.
On February 7, 1927, she was united in marriage to Sam Heemskerk in Hills, Minn. After their marriage the couple farmed in the Valley Springs
area until moving to Doon. In 1941 they moved to Boyden. For 30 years she was employed by the Vogel Paint and Glass Store in Sheldon. Her
husband died on Dec. 19, 1976,in Sheldon. She continued to make her home in Boyden before entering the Osceola County Hospital in Sibley.
Margaret was a member of the First Reformed Church in Boyden and enjoyed spending
time with her family, knitting and doing crossword puzzles.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Marian Zevenbergen of Sibley, and Joan and her husband,
Jerry Vander Meulen, of Ocheyedan; one son and his wife, Marvin and LuEtta Heemskerk, of Boyden; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren;
four great-greatgrandchildren; one sister, Mrs.
Margie Ackerman, of Sioux Falls, S.D., and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, one son and his wife, Wilbur and Flossie Heemskerk; a son-in-law, Arthur Zevenbergen; her parents;
