Etta De Jong, 95, of Rock Valley died Sunday, July 29, at Hegg Memorial Health Center in Rock Valley.
Services will be held at 1:30 P.M., today (Wednesday) at First Reformed Church in Doon with the Rev. Donald Baker officiating. Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery near Doon.
Mrs. De Jong was born July 16, 1906, to Charlie & Ida (Postma) Anema in Rock Valley. She attended Perkins Christian School through the eighth grade. She married Marnus De Jong on October 23, 1930, in Hull. She was a member of First Reformed Church in Doon. She enjoyed church, family, gardening, cooking and baking. She will be remembered for reciting scriptures and poetry and singing songs from memory even in her older age.
Survivors include five sons, Fred & Jean of Hull; Charlie & Eileen of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Manuel & Carolyn of Dexter; Herm of Columbus, Georgia, and Corky & Jan of Canton, South Dakota; three daughters, Evelyn & Henry Vis of Sioux Center; Esther & Clarence De Roon of Rock Valley, and Marily Doiron of Sanford, Maine; 29 grandchildren; 55 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren; four sisters, Ann Groenhagen of San Diego, CA; Alice Dykstra of Oakhurst, CA; Elizabeth Anema of Glendale, CA, and Geraldine Klieman of Grand Rapids, MI; one sister-in-law, Ann De Jong of Rock Valley.
She was preceded in death by her husband; two sons, Arnold & Kenneth; one grandson; three great grandchildren; three brothers, Pete, Cornie & Charles; and five sisters, Florence Te Slaa, Grace De King, Bertha Anker, Sue Harthoorn and Wilma Groeneweg.
