De Jong, Mrs. Sam (Etta) - 1911-1999

Etta De Jong, 87, of Orange City died on Tuesday, January 19, at the Long-Term-Care Facility of Orange City Municipal Hospital.

Services were Friday at First Christian Reformed Church in Orange City, with the Rev. Timothy Ouwinga officiating. Burial was at West Lawn Cemetery.

Mrs. De Jong was born on July 6, 1911, in Orange City, the daughter of Martin & Gertrude (Siebersma) De Jager. She was raised in Orange City.

She married Sam De Jong on March 18, 1936, in Orange City. The couple resided in Orange City. They later represented the Newton Manufacturing Company, selling advertising specialities. He died on February 3, 1989, in Orange City. She entered the Heritage House in Orange City in 1997. She transferred to the Long-Term-Care Facility in March 1998.

She was a member of First Christian Reformed Church and Thy Kingdom Come Society.

Survivors include three daughters and their husbands, Rena & Glenn Lyons of LeMars, Gertrude & Jay De Vries of Atlanta, Georgia, and Sandra & Bill Van Horssen of Orange City; a daughter-in-law, Geraldine De Jong of Orange City; 18 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Elizabeth Dykstra of Orange City.

She was preceded in death by a son, Martin; a brother, Steven De Jager; and four sisters, Grace De Vos, Jeanette Den Herder, Lucy Ennema and Harriet Wassenaar.

Memorials may be directed to First Christian Reformed Church or Covenant Foundation of Orange City Christian School.
