Hull - Edith Marie De Jong, 79, Hull, died Thursday, March 21, at Pleasant Acres Care Center.

Services will be 1:30 P.M., today (Saturday, March 23) at First Reformed Church in Hull, with the Rev. Verlyn Boone officiating. Burial will be at Hope Cemetery in Hull, under the direction of Oolman Funeral Home in Hull.

Edith De Jong, daughter of Benjamin J. & Johanna (Ten Haken) Bonestroo, was born Dec. 16, 1922, in Hull. She was raised in Hull, where she graduated from the public high school. She married Arthur Edward De Jong on Dec. 16, 1943, in Hull. After World War II they made their home in Hull, where she was a housewife and homemaker. Mr. De Jong died Jan. 15, 1992. She became a resident of Pleasant Acres Care Center in May, 1998. She was a member of First Reformed Church, were she participated in the women's organizations. She also was a member of the Auxiliary of the Wegman-Koele American Legion Post, Hull Public Library Board of Directors and Care Review Committee at Pleasant Acres. She had served as treasurer of the Hull Betterment Corporation. She enjoyed reading, bird watching, traveling and bowling. She was an avid sports fan and especially liked to watch her grandchildren participate in games.

Survivors include three sons, Larry & Marliss De Jong of Sioux City, Galen & Nancy De Jong of Hull, and Brian & Pam De Jong of Hull; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three step great-grandchildren; and a brother, Allison and Molly Bonestroo of Des Moines.
