Bernard Anthony De Jong, 71, of Orange City, died Sunday, August 29, at Park View Haven in Coleridge, Nebraska. Services were Wednesday at First Reformed Church in Orange City, with the Rev. Steven Vander Molen officiating. Burial was at West Lawn Cemetery.

De Jong was born on January 11, 1922, in Orange City, the son of Stephen & Johanna (Mouw) De Jong. He lived most of his life in Orange City. An avid horseman, he participated in harness racing in the United States and Canada.

De Jong was a member of First Reformed Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Brenda De Jong of Milwaukee; two sons and their wives, Brent & Shirley of Vermillion, South Dakota, and Bruce & Laura of Orange City; three grandchildren, Amy, Kyle and Kayla; two sisters, Mrs. Edward (Nellie) Meier and Earlene De Jong, both of Coleridge; and nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Peter & Earl.
