Funeral services were held at the Newkirk Reformed Church at 10 A.M., Tuesday, January 7, for Mrs. S. P. (Emma) DeJong, 88, a resident of the Sioux Center Nursing wing since February of 1961, who died at the local hospital Saturday following a lingering illness.

Services were conducted by the Rev. Marion Klaaren of Sioux Center and burial was made in the Newkirk cemetery under the direction of the Co-operative Funeral Home of Sioux Center.

Mrs. DeJong was born at Pella, IA., on November 11, 1875, the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Gysbert Bomgaars. She moved as a child with her parents and brothers and sisters to Alton. Later the family moved to Maurice and then to Middleburg. Upon reachng adulthood, she taught rural school for a time at Middleburg and Alton. On February 12, 1903, she was married to Sjoerd P. DeJong at Alton and to this union one son was born. They farmed near Newkirk for 40 years and then moved to Worthington, Minn. In February of 1961 Mr. & Mrs. DeJong moved to the Sioux Center Nursing home.

Mr. DeJong passed away there on January 9, 1963.

Survivors include her son, Peter S. DeJong of Culver City, CA, three grandchildren and three great grandchildren; a niece, Mrs. Nellie Vos Bailey of Boulder, CO, who was reared in the DeJong home.

Others who preceded her in death were five brothers and four sisters.

Mrs. DeJong was a member of the American Reformed Church in Worthington. She taught Sunday school for 40 years and was active in ladies missionary societies.
