David DeJong, 58, of Hawarden died Monday in a Sioux City hospital after a long illness.

Services were at 1:30 P.M., Thursday in the Christian Reformed Church in Hawarden. The Rev. William J. VanDer Heide did officiate. Burial was in the Grace Hill Cemetery. There was a prayer service at 7:30 P.M., Wednesday in the Dow Funeral Home.

Mr. DeJong was born Jan. 22, 1924 at Hallum, The Netherlands.

He married Mina VanDerWal, Jan. 23, 1947 in The Netherlands. He moved with his family to the United States and to Hull in March of 1951. He purchased the Central Cafe in Hawarden in 1976, and made his home in Hawarden since that time.

He was an active member of the Christian Reformed Church where he served as deacon and was an elder at the time of his death.

Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Mrs. LaVerne (Annamae) Boer of Lyons, SD; four sons, John of Des Moines, Bill of Alcester, SD, Dennis of Hawarden and David of Manteca, CA, one sister, Mrs. Ruurdje Bylsma and two brothers, Jan and Dirk, all in The Netherlands and five grandchildren.
