Funeral services were held Saturday, April 26, in the Ireton Christian Reformed Church for Fred De Jong, 74, who passed away Thursday at the Hawarden hospital.
Rev. John Hulst of Orange City officiated at the services. Pallbearers were Peter Statema, Andrew Elgersma, Sam Byker, Jake Sinkey, John Ekdom and James Geels. The Satterlee Funeral Home was in charge.
Mr. De Jong was born in 1884 in St. Anne in The Netherlands. He came to America at the age of 16. On February 22, 1911, he was united in marriage to Jennie De Jager at Maurice. They have lived in the Ireton community all of the time, with the exception of five years when they lived at Pease, Minn. They retired from the farm several years ago and moved into town.
He is survived by his wife, Jennie; four sons, Ted & Alfred of Ireton, Henry of Orange City and Bernard of Artesia, CA; and four daughters, Rose (Mrs. Alvin Mulder) of Sioux Center, Esther Mae (Mrs. Harold Bolkema) of Grand Rapids, MI; Rena (Mrs. Art De Boer) and Ann (Mrs. Clarence Mulder) of Ireton; 36 grandchildren; one brother, Andrew of Estelline, SD; one sister, Susie (Mrs. Tunis Dykstra) of Holland, MI.
