Funeral services were held Thursday, February 7, in the American Reformed church of Orange City, at 2 p.m. for Charles L. Dyke, widely-known northwest Iowa pioneers who died Monday, February 4, in the Grossmann hospital, Orange City. He would have been 90 years old next October 15. Burial was made in the Orange City cemetery with Van Etten Funeral Home in cahrge.

Mr, Dyke came to this country from Wolvega, Friesland, the Netherlands in 1871. His family settled first near East Oostburg, Wisc., and a year later homesteaded near Hospers. In 1897, Mr. Dyke was united in marriage to Gertrude Maris. Together they lived in Hospers for a year and then moved to Orange City where they made thier home except for six year in Iowa City.

Mr. Dyke was the author of the book, "The Story of Sioux County" and co-founder of the "Sioux County Capital", Orange City newspaper. He was also its associated editor for many years.

Preceding him in death was his wife, who passed away in May, 1954, and a son, Dr. Cornelius G. Dyke, who died in 1943. He is survived by a son, Dr. Lester Maris Dyke of Illinois and two daughters, Grace, Mrs. James H. Treneman of Newport, Washington and Esther, Mrs. Wayland Keith Hicks, Sioux City. There are also nine grandsons and three great grandchildren
