Mrs.Simon Dykshoorn,78, died Saturday morning at her home following a heart attack.
Mrs. Dykshoorn, nee Marta Baas was born at Hoorn, Netherlands, on November 27, 1862. She came to America at the age of eleven years, sixty seven years ago, with her parents, settling at Ackley, Iowa. The past seven years she had lived in Sioux Center. Prior to that she had lived near Corsica, SD. On April 24, 1885 at Harrison, SD. she married Simon Dykshoorn and to this union eleven children were born.Of these four preceded her in death, two sons and one daughter died in infancy. One daughter Mrs. H. Scheffer, 51 years of age, died on August 19, 1939.
Those who survive her are her widower and the following children, Mrs. Peter Vander Pol of Monteca, Calif., Walter of Rock Valley, William of Corsica, SD., Peter of Chicago, Ill., Abe of Husdon, SD., Mrs. Herman Vander Griend of Sioux Center, and Mrs. A. J. Vanden Hoek of Corsica, SD., She also leaves one brother Mr. Peter Baas of Corsica, SD, thirty four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 15, 1941 at 1:00 p.m. from the home and at 1:30 from the First Reformed Church. The Rev. Mr. L. Brunsting officiated. Bearers were Jess Wells, John Wesselink, Peter S. Schut, Ben Vander Berg, Peter De Vries and Herman Peelen. Burial was in the Sioux Center cemetery.
