Dyke, Nick L. - 1865-1940

Funeral services were held last Friday afternoon at 1:30 at the First Presbyterian church with Rev. R. B. Budd officiating for Nick L. Dyke, 75, who passed away Tuesday evening, Nov. 12, at his home north of town after a short illness.

Nick L. Dyke was born in Wolvenga, Friesland, Netherlands, on Dec. 24, 1865, and at the age of eight years he came to the United States with his parents who located near Sheboygan, Wisconsin, for a short time prior to settling on a farm north of Hospers where he lived at the time of his death.

In 1895 he was married to Rose Rozema. Eleven children were born to this union, one dying in infancy. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Rose Dyke, eight daughters, Grace, Mrs. Ben Vander Berg; Sadie, Mrs. D. Schaafsma; Clara, Mrs. C. Brown of Chicago; Beatrice, Mrs. J. McAllister of Chicago; Saran and Julia of Minneapolis and Rose and Margaret at home. Two sons, Sherman of Hospers and Lester of Lakeville, MN also survive; also two sisters, Mrs. Anna De Boer, Mrs. Jeltje Draayom and one brother, Charles of Orange City.

Mr. Dyke had been an active member of the Presbyterian Church for over forty years.

Interment was made in the Presbyterian cemetery east of Hospers.
